Günzburg, Horace
(1833-1909)
   Russian communal leader, son of Joseph Yozel Günzburg. He was born in Zvenigorodka in the province of Kiev, and became active as a banker in St Petersburg. During the blood libel case in Kutais in 1878 he encouraged Daniel Chwolson to write a book about the history of blood libel. In 1881-2 he attempted to establish an organization of Russian Jews. Later he headed the Jewish community in St Petersburg and the Society for the Promotion of Culture Among the Jews in Russia.
